The Evolution of Internet

Before we had home broadband or even fibre optic broadband. The origins of the internet can be traced back to what is called Apranet in 1969. This was a military funding project that was designed to link computers together.

When the military completed their project, Arpanet was moved a set of five universities. Stanford, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, BBN and University of Utah all were connected. By 1984, 1,000 hosts were connected to this new technology and the internet was formed. At this time it was only labs and universities that were connected to it, the change to home access wouldn’t occur until the 90s.

What is interesting is that in the 1990′s, the internet started off by being a U.S. dominated environment. A majoring of the communication occurred in the United States and it wasn’t until later years that Europe and Asia started to switch the amount of access to the internet over the years.

By the late 1990s, another phenomenon occurred. This was the .com revolution. With it, companies were able to sell their products and services over the internet as they purchased space on the internet.
